She Suffers In Silence

She sees him, watches him from afar,
And longs for him.
But he will never know.
He shall remain forever
Unaware of the feelings that consume her
Every waking, aching moment;
Suffocating her;
Swallowing her whole.

He sits and talks and laughs;
Oblivious;
And inside she cries
The tears of a thousand broken souls.
The pain envelops her,
Passionate rage surges forth
And sinks its sticky claws
Deep in her tender heart.
She is overcome,
And yet she remains subdued.

Fantasy strangles her fragile mind:
She prophecises what could be;
What should be;
If only things were different.
She will never truly understand,
But inside – somewhere – she knows
The truth, her silver bullet,
Would destroy her.

So she longs for him:
Her life a tragedy suffered in silence.
And he will never know.

  1. quite a sad poem – but can ring very true…

  2. Beautiful truly Beautiful

    I had no idea you were so deep I look forward to reading the rest of your work too.

  3. I have just re-read this poem and I think its fabulous and so pretty.

    But I do have a question what does the silver bullet sumbolise?

    Kind regards and darkest wishes

    Dean

    • Hi Dean,
      The silver bullet is really a reference to classic, perhaps stereotypical, werewolf lore. Just as a silver bullet would kill the aforementioned supernatural beast, the truth would destroy the love – arguably a supernatural force in itself – that the protagonist of the poem feels for the object of her affections.

      Thanks for the question, hope that clears things up a bit :)
